VOLUNTEER WITH GRNN

Volunteerism is a cornerstone of the Village model, and we encourage people in our community to support each other.

We welcome residents in and around Glen Rock to volunteer with GRNN. We also encourage GRNN members to become volunteers, and for GRNN volunteers to become members!

Eligibility:

Open to people ages 18+ (if interested in youth volunteering, please email us directly at [email protected])

What types of services might GRNN volunteers be asked to provide?

Transportation: Rides to local destinations, including errands, medical and other appointments, stores, and social events.

Errands: Picking up prescriptions, shopping for groceries, mailing items at the post office, and more.

Minor Household Tasks: Light bulb changing, minor repairs, flipping bed mattresses, picture hanging, changing smoke alarm batteries, lifting heavy boxes, etc.

Light Technology Assistance: Troubleshooting computers, smartphones, or other devices, and setting up devices.

Friendly Visits: Volunteers can spend time with members, such as playing cards, having a cup of tea, going for coffee, etc.

What is expected in terms of time commitment and assignments?

Volunteer on your own schedule in a way that works best for you! No regular day or time is required. A regular email is sent with open tasks, and volunteers choose which assignments to accept.

Volunteers providing services to members must:

  • Pass a background check (criminal)
  • If interested in providing transportation, you must also pass a motor vehicle background check
  • Attend initial training sessions

Volunteers are NOT permitted to:

Assist with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and eating.

Administer or handle medications, treatment, or any type of medical care.

Perform regular home maintenance such as cleaning and lawn care.

Handle tasks that require a professional license (plumbing, electrical work, nursing).

Attempt to lift someone who has fallen, provide lift assistance, or lift objects over 40-50 pounds.

Provide referrals or recommendations for paid services or contractors.
